What Customers Say About HP Pavilion DV7-1130US 17-Inch Laptop (2GHz AMD Turion X2 RM-70 Dual-Core Mobile Processor, 4 GB RAM, 250 GB Hard Drive, DVD Drive, Vista Premium):

Let me list reasons why I do NEVER recommend.1. Only for streaming charts, its CPU usage reaches almost 100%. It is not for intensive performance. Its DVD player sucks. I run it to stream multiple charts - it often times gets frozen; just stops working.

I could not run many DVD's I borrowed from libraries, which worked on my Toshiba DVD player without any problem. I used Toshiba and Dell laptops for several years without any problems. This HP machine is just 15 month old and I already have many problems. I have just found lots of all the same complaints on the web.

Now the power light is finally gone - it never comes back, so I cannot use it with no power. Now, however, I do NEVER recommend this computer. I found the same problems on line and some people reported that they tried the same HDMI cable and monitor on other computer and had no problem - I think the problem is from its graphic card. At first, I liked this computer a lot because it just looked good. It sounds very loud with everything else quiet.4. 2.

I lost all my confidence and trust in HP and its products. Never buy this laptop for high performance - you will regret a lot lot.3. I bought a silver one. So the problem is not due to DVD, but from the computer.5. HDMI did not work with an external monitor.

I talked to HP service guys and they could not resolve the problem.Do not get fooled with its appearance and brand name.

It began to make some bothering noise - not fan motor sound, like something due to loose parts.

I will never buy HP products again and I do not recommend, either.

About 1 year after my purchase, the power light is sometimes NOT ON.

I respected the company before this machine.

Another computer of mine, Dell with Intel Duo T7250, works much better.

The noise is very annoying when I work at night.

I may spend several hundreds for the power thing, but I am also considering to give up the whole computer; I am not sure I won't have new problems after the power thing fix.

Hope you will not experience the same feeling of betrayal.

Had this exact computer for 1 yr now and paid $699 on sale at Office Max. watch a lot of netfix, surfing, Just installed Win 7, very happy with this computer for MY price. Computer is good. I dont do any major graphics etc. If you have heard of the HP battery recall this was not one of them. atleast mine wasnt.

This is a very great product I have been using it for 2 weeks know and I can't be more happy about it. the only thing is that when I bought it didn't realize it doesn't come with a DVD ROM, I guess I assume it.:P.well go ahead an buy it with out any doubt.

I picked up a wireless mouse, a first for me and I love it so far. I went to Wally World on a Saturday looking to replace my old Dell Inspiron e1505 and picked up a HP Pavilion dv7 (my model # is 1129wm). I wanted the dv7 with 500 gig hard drive but they were out and I was ready to buy so I got the 250, figuring I could always have a friend of mine upgrade it later. Just above the track pad there is a button to turn it off so you do not accidentally move the cursor or scroll on a page. This is also my first dealings with Vista and so far I do not mind it. I have had it two days and love it.

My only (minor) complaint so far is the slot for my SD card. I picked it over a Dell Studio 17, which I liked because it had a fingerprint scanner, but I did not like the CD/DVD drive, there was no tray, just a slot in the side of the notebook which turned out to be the deal breaker. I love the numeric keypad, the remote control for the media center, the volume scroller, and the size of the screen. It is very sharp, black and shiny on the outside, mine has the square pattern with a HP logo that glows when the machine is in use, and silver on the inside (it comes with a cloth to clean it). I use it for personal use.surfing the web and playing games online, the occasional paper for school, some photo and video editing, playing and downloading MP3s, household spreadsheets, etc. You have to push it ALL the way in.my old Dell was only about 3/4 of the way until it clicked.

My home wireless connects automatically, the graphics are fantastic, I really am having fun with this laptop.

Even though they give you a full keyboard and number pad they do not turn on the number pad by default so you need to do this yourself and save it in the registry. The have Tablet PC software installed for some reason which conflicts with the video and IE7. Thus, I had to drive over 100 miles to go pick it up. When you touch the MUTE on the hardware (not software controlled), the light goes amber and stays like that know matter how many times you touch it or reboot. You have to go and download codec encryption software so you can watch a regular, typical DVD. My old laptop had a function key to turn on a light. Point is, be home so you can sign for it.Full keyboard and number pad.The screen is big and a nice LCD 1080p view. You can turn off the pointing device with one clickgreat speed and processing.great disk size. When it works, the sound is very nice from the laptop.****CONS****:Received BLACK not Bronze machine. Okay so this could be a CON too.

There was nothing stated that the color may vary. The piano black (high gloss) shows everything and appears messy all the time. The MUTE fails A LOT and sound didn't work from the moment I took it out of the box. Pros:It was delivered on time however, the vendor/shipper (came from [.].) required a signature and this wasn't stated ANYWHERE prior to ordering. The 'Support' person REFUSED to write this up as a bug and refused to look at the issue further.Needless to say, HP's Customer support is POOR and really isn't there to HELP or make their product better. I already knew this, as I own many HP products but I thought this 'service' really stood out as the worst. The laptop is very heavy.the laptop is difficult to open and close (tight hinges); there is no latch to keep it close so, I assume that is why they did this.No documentation (hardcopy or digital) is included with the machine. The ability to watch DVD movies is NOT enabled out of the box. I didn't have this issue with my other HP desktops so I can only assume it is a 'special feature' of this model only. There is no light on the laptop and the keyboard is not backlit. Another 'feature' that was NOT disclosed to us in any documentation. According to HP "Support" only Sony and HP lightscribe DVDs work in this one model of laptop (again, this is HP saying this NOT me as I don't know since I haven't gotten it to work yet).

I paid for express delivery and since I live out in the country (no neighbors), I asked for them to leave it in a specific place (like all my deliveries) but they couldn't because of this undisclosed secret. It needs to be uninstalled or patched (Microsoft has a patch for this blunder).Because there is no documentation, I have no clue how to use the little 'TV Tuner' they included. HP states "I" have to remove the device, run recovery, reinstall it, and reboot. I found I have to do this EVERY time I mute, as such. It looks like it is suppose to plug in somewhere but I can't find anything that looks like the socket and I've tried to use it like my other HP machine and it does nothing.BIG CON: the DVD is very picky and cannot use MANY brands of media to record onto. My other 2 HP desktop machines have no issue with the lightscribe disks I have.
